A demonstration of the potentiality for elegance and flexibility within wood as a material, the Mountains Chair formally recalls the depictions of sweeping mountains in traditional Chinese paintings through natural cork sculpted with CNC machining. Mounted on a dark oak base assembled with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, it is inspired by wooden stands on which bonsai are mounted.

The Mountains Chair pushes the boundaries of its typology in form and function. It contains the foundational elements of a chair - the seat and backrest, but is not strictly defined by these elements and only uses them as a starting point, extending them into an organic, inhabitable mass.

The user or users have much freedom in regards to where and how they choose to occupy themselves on the chair, with it functioning as a stage or playground for those who desire to be off their feet, either momentarily or leisurely.
