Greenland, the world’s least densely populated country, has over 60% of its population concentrated in its five largest towns, all situated in the southern part of the country. The majority of Greenlanders live in rental properties and tend to move frequently due to housing prices or work, mostly within this region.
In Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest and one of its fastest-growing towns, the design of this off-grid micro-cabin module aims to offer an affordable and easily replicable housing solution to address the demand for stable living spaces in expanding towns in challenging climates.
A close-knit micro cabin community will be established on the eastern shore of Lake Spejdesø, next to a cultural center and a school. This project aims to provide comfortable living environments that foster a sense of community while serving as an example of respecting traditional ways of life in the face of modernization.
